Science Fiction Double Feature
Minus the science fiction, anyway.
I’m in two places for the price of one! So to speak. Belle at Paper Girl Productions makes really awesome stuffed animals — not just your run-of-the-mill Gund bears but truly unique pieces, some of which I can’t even identify as to species. Some really, really awesome stuff, though.
She’s also running a couple of wonderful features. One’s at her main online shop — a Holiday Gift Guide with a plethora of awesome things to choose from! I’m honoured to be among such luminaries as Belly Babies and WhiMSy Love.
She’s also done a feature at her blog — she’s chosen only twelve shops from her Gift Guide, and I’m one of them! Once again I’m in wonderful company.
Check it out!
How sweet!
I’m rather ashamed that it took me this long to find this lovely little mention; it’s from August 23, after all!
For you budget beauties, you can get yummy, natural clear lip balms from Om Shanti Handcrafts…
Read the rest here…and thanks Mary!
Short Takes
I’ve appeared in another Etsy Treasury.
I’m contemplating some jewelry for a Breast Cancer Awareness Challenge run by Miss Knits, assuming I can find any pink beads.
I near froze my tuchus off camping this weekend — quite literally, as it went down to about 35F/2C overnight. Thank God for wool blankets and a warm kitten!
I’ve been going hiking a lot lately, and doing some wildcrafting when I’m not in a park. That’s the term these days for harvesting some of what’s already growing there. I have a goodly handful of rose hips I’ll be doing something with.
Been riding my bike a lot, and will be doing so again, as soon as I get my rear tire replaced. :/
Pictures and more bloggy goodness to follow I’m sure.
Wickedly Chic!
Wickedly Chic is an online ‘zine focused on the best in indie shopping. It’s got a lot of fun and useful features, from an ever-changing Daily Ditties (a listing of the newest, most chic items in the indie world) to more in-depth features on indie businesses in Fresh and Chic.
And this week I’ve got a double feature over there! On the main page you can see me as Reader of the Week, showing off some of my favourite places to shop (you’ll recognize them I’m sure!) and I also have a funny story up in Shot Through the Heart. I’m pretty unbearably smug and I think you all should go and have a look!
Cuteable!
Cuteable is a great place to go if you like the cute — kawaii, twee, whatever words you might want to use. Slightly to my own surprise, I like a whole lot of the things there. I’m not usually much for the cute, but she manages to pick out some awesome stuff that still qualifies as cute.
Here are a couple of recent examples (complete with where to get them):
And one last one…
…couldn’t resist sending something of mine in. :)
You may have noticed that some of the above pictures link to a selling site called Dawanda — it’s based in Europe but welcomes American sellers as well. I figured what the heck and opened a shop! It’ll have everything in my current shops but might open up my European markets a bit.
Well, one can hope.
It’s Nice to be Seen…
…and I’ve been seen a couple of cool places recently.
I did this first interview so long ago I’d almost forgotten about it. Ivonnardona of Ivonnardona’s Creations does good work, though, and now it’s up on her blog. An excerpt:
A recent favorite is spearmint. I asked a friend at work what kind of lip balm she’s always wanted and could never find; she replied that peppermint’s easy but why doesn’t anyone make spearmint? I stopped on the way home to pick up a bag from the local herb shop and spent the rest of the ride home with my nose practically in it, it smelled so good!
I’ve also made an appearance in an IndieGals Roundup post about romance! They feature a whole lot of lovely items and Lark’s Spicy Footy Salve was one of them. ‘Looks good enough to taste’, they say, and while I don’t actually recommend trying it I appreciate the sentiment. Go have a look!
Showing up in a couple more places…
Today and tomorrow I have the featured post over at Guilty Pleasures, a site about:
…the things you enjoy in your life: little secrets of cuisine sprinkled with a glass of delicate wine, shared with someone at a fancy dinner or in a hut, around the fire. It’s about you and your hidden desires, about the bazaar of human pleasures, seen as more or less guilty.
I chose to write about my Tangerine Vanilla Lip Balm simply because I’m still boggled that I managed to reinvent the Orange Julius in lip balm form.
I also made it into Etsy Treasury! Thanks to Kayleigh of Archeress Arts for featuring my Ease the Burn Sunburn Spray.
Ahh, Dani. :)
So my friend Dani from back East and I got started on Etsy around the same time, but being so far apart (and so busy) it took us a little while to realize this. Since then, we’ve encouraged each other and naught much else — being, well, awfully busy. She’s been running Sweet Tarragon since December of last year and she makes, truly, some lovely jewelry.
Just recently, though, she and her partner Mer started another shop — Hot Glue Media — focusing on business graphics. Etsy banners and avatars, business cards, letterhead, labels, and anything else you might want.
Hot Glue Media: Solutions that Stick! Okay, I just think that’s hysterical.
I keep meaning to get around to interviewing the two of them (and failing), but that’ll happen someday. In the meantime, I figured I’d do a little pointer their way.
(She also may have posted nice things about my stuff in her blog, but I’d've done this anyway, I just needed the provocation!)
More Kitten-ey Goodness
Yet more pictures!

This one’s a couple weeks old, too. Yep, those are my boobs. With attached kitten. After a while he fell asleep there.

This is just a small version — full-sized, this one is huge. It is such a great picture I’m thinking about getting it printed up right and framed. Look! At the kitten tongue! Just look!
In other news, he’s about outgrown that harness and I’ll be needing a new one soon.

I did not pose him like this.
He did this himself.

We’d walked to the post office, and he was pretty worn out. As soon as I got the last of the stuff out of my backpack he climbed right in. And, in fact, fell asleep and stayed that way right through me shopping at Vitamin Cottage.
In which he was not allowed, but they took a look at him and said kitten? What kitten? *petpetpetscritchpetpet*
Hee!
Also, in another Treasury. I seem to be popular these days!
A winner!
A couple weeks ago I was featured at De Lavande Hand Beaded Necklaces & More — Rachelle did a lovely interview and ran a contest. The winner was one Mary, otherwise known as PopBlocks on Etsy and the lady who writes Now Entering Momville, an awfully fun blog.
After a lot of consideration Mary opted to spend her ten dollar gift certificate on a bottle of my Good Smellin Bug Stuff, which I duly sent off. Upon receiving it she did a little review in her blog…
From Lavande blog, I won a $10 gift certificate to Omshanti, a terrific etsy shop with tons of all-natural beauty and health goodies for pretty darn cheap. I am going back there for birthday gift baskets and stocking stuffers.
Check out her place for the rest of what she had to say — and thank you, Mary, for your kind words!
